OHS Educational Programs

Occupational Health Strategies, Inc. has created dozens of training modules that can be integrated into comprehensive wellness programs for organizations of any size.

Our most extensive wellness program is at the Federal Executive Institute (FEI), a client for over 20 years. FEI offers leadership and management education to senior level federal executives and contracts with OHS to deliver an extensive wellness program as part of the Leadership for a Democratic Society four-week course. The FEI Wellness Program offers a health assessment with blood pressure, body composition, phlebotomy fitness testing (upper body strength and flexibility) and our Personal Health Evaluation health risk appraisal. Presentations span the subjects of

  • Health Risks

  • Nutrition

  • Stress management and work-life balance

  • Health issues for men and women approaching mid-life

  • Taking wellness home.

Daily exercise sessions include conditioning classes, fitness walks and yoga-like stretching classes. Participants can also take advantage of one-on-one sessions with a health educator, a registered dietician, a stress management expert and/or a psychotherapist if desired. OHS advises the food service staff, who strive to include healthy choices and give the participants nutritional information on the menu. We also offer an optional 1-day field experience on healthy body, mind, emotions and spirit that includes a grocery store tour with a nutritionist. The program provides comprehensive group reports that track participation and impact, while protecting individual confidentiality. Blood tests can be repeated at the end of a four-week stay to measure improvement. OHS has conducted follow-up studies extending up to 2.5 years after participation in this program.

Another of our primary clients for educational programs is the Naval Air Systems Command, or NAVAIR. A highlight of OHS’ long-term relationship with NAVAIR was a week-long wellness conference held at the Boar’s Head Inn in Charlottesville. In addition to all the services described above in the FEI LDS program, additional presentations include

  • Health and productivity management

  • Eating on the run

  • Contemporary approaches to diet and weight management

  • Type A/B personalities

  • Men’s and women’s health issues

  • Psychological hardiness

  • Complementary and integrative medicine.

Occupational Health Strategies has designed a modular wellness program that is woven integrally throughout the NAVAIR 5-year training leadership development programs. Different OHS presentations are featured in each session and daily exercise is always included.

Since 1980 Occupational Health Strategies has designed, updated, and conducted nationwide courses on Drug and Alcohol Testing and Medical Review Officer Training in conjunction with the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM). Leading an expert faculty, we have conducted more than 100 courses for over 12,000 physicians.
